twentyfive.

okay, so as something fun to do on a rainy night, i re-upped my blog playlist. so now you get to know some backstory behind me and each song. either read it or don't, i don't care, lol, i'm having fun.

1. "perhaps, perhaps, perhaps" by Cake
i actually only discovered this song yesterday. i was skimming deviant art for a new picture or something to use to redo my blog. i chanced upon this still-life picture montage about an orange whose significant other cheats on him with a banana. it wasn't the complete picture tale, so i watched it on youtube (you can see it here) and this was the song in the background. sooooo, in my quest for constant music, i downloaded the entire album, "Fashion Nugget". i'll tell you how the album is later, but i love this song (clearly).

2. "love is you" by Chrisette Michele
i absolutely love Chrisette Michele. between her voice and the topics she covers, i'm all about Chrisette Michele, to be honest. this song is probably the best love song of 2008. YEAH I SAID IT. find me a better song and i might give in, but i stand by my statement thus far. very pretty song, no frills, and gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling =]

3. "everybody nose (remix)" by NERD ft. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Pusha T
i knew about the original through two friends who are hiphopheads (and musicheads, too) and just Pharrell screaming got me hooked, lol. so when my godbrother told me about the remix and that Lupe was on it, best believe i found it ASAP. Pharrell's not the best lyricist by a long shot, but he works for the song. it was also nice to hear Kanye as a featured artist again. oh, and Lupe absolutely killed it, no ifs ands or buts.

4. "little boy" by Kirk Franklin ft. Rance Allen
let me start by saying that Kirk Franklin is a musical genius in his own right and that "The Fight of My Life" was a really good album. i even grew into liking songs that i didn't really like to begin with. i really like this song, though. i love contemporary gospel that attempts to go back to the roots of gospel, lol. the use of brass instruments and guitars really made this song for me. and rance allen has a great voice.

5. "kiss kiss (remix)" by Chris Brown ft. T-Pain & Nelly
hearing the original "kiss kiss" everywhere forced me to like it, but getting the official CB album from my friend Dionne made me like the remix. i was wondering where the hell Nelly had been. apparently, he found time to duck into the studio to remix a CB song between dealing with Akademics and Apple Bottom, lol. i like this one a lot more than the original.

6. "can't help but wait" by Trey Songz
to be honest, this song reminds me of my godbrother and that girl he likes who got a boyfriend, lmaoooo. but yeah, i really like this song now that the hype over it has died down (i hate liking a song when everyone else is gaga over it). and isn't it refreshing to hear Trey Songz NOT singing about sex? or am i the only one who actually listened to songs off his albums that AREN'T singles? lol. yeaahhhh... this song is DEFINITELY refreshing after "grub on" [ rolls eyes ]

7. "good girl" by Chrisette Michele
again, i love Chrisette. this song? it's got me like FINALLY, a song where the woman isn't either completely "you can't touch me 'cause you ain't good enough" or completely "baby i miss you can't breathe without you WHYYYY". and it's a good anti-golddigger song =] i love listening to this song when i'm shopping, lol.

8. "we love you" by Lupe Fiasco ft. Sway
i'm a huge Lupe fan, so of course i love just about everything he touches, this song included. i first heard it on The Coolest Mixtape with Sway's part taken out, and the fact that it was short and didn't have a real chorus (since it was only half the song, i didn't recognize it as a chorus, really) also made me like it. so finally hearing Sway's part was cool, even though i felt like it didn't follow concept, but i like Sway's flow and accent anyway.

9. "going on" by Gnarls Barkley
i didn't really get into Gnarls Barkley until The Odd Couple, but i'm crazy over the album (no pun intended). i think i first heard "run (i'm a natural disaster)" while skimming past VH1 and then got to hear some of the other tracks by MTV2 playing live clips between shows. so, of course, i got the album. it didn't disappoint. i think i also really like "going on" because of how many situations it can be applied to.

10. "if i have my way" by Chrisette Michele
most sex songs are either way too innuendo-y for me or they're just downright nasty (see: Pretty Ricky). this one? it's the good girl's sex song, lol. it's like "i don't want to go that far right now, but one day, i'mma blow your mind" LMAO. 'nuff said.

11. "we on" by Lupe Fiasco & Gemini (aka GemStones)
tag-team rap song. could it REALLY get any better? only if it's Lupe and Gemini. i have to admit, their work is really seamless. their styles complement each other extremely well, and it's not just because they're both from Chicago. they're not the same KIND of rapper, but in a way, they are. makes sense? probably not. get some music from both and compare it. you'll get it. and Pooh singing? i LOVE his voice quality.

12. "shut up and drive" by Rihanna
okay, so i gave into the radio for this one, lol. i like this song because i heard it and it's catchy and i can bump it while i'm walking home, lol.

13. "a little better" by Gnarls Barkley
this song is great because it can either be a pick-me-up or an emo song, lol. i'm in love with the whole song, but especially the second verse. btw, doesn't cee-lo green sound like he should sing School House Rock songs? lol

14. "creep" by Radiohead
i heard this song by watching one of those VH1 countdowns, lol. someone described it as proof that being 13 sucked for everyone, lmao. and yeah, i was a pretty emo 13-year-old and i would've had a few moments to this song. i copped the whole album, "pablo honey" to get this song. so far, i'm still only stuck on this song.

15. "viva la vida" by Coldplay
okay, so the constant barrage of Apple iTune commercials made me give in and get this song. my friend got the album before me, but we both have only heard this song so far, lol. i like this song alot. it's a good chill song. i feel like i'd smoke to this song if i smoked, lmaooo, so i just chill under the fan and drink iced tea to it.

16. "i may never find" by Chris Brown
ths song was introduced to me by my friend Alecia because she's a total Chris Brown stan, lol. but the song grew on me. it's a really sweet song. plus hearing a calm Chris is fun.

17. "mikey rocks" by the Cool Kids
the cool kids are pretty amazing even though i'm not too crazy about the whole 80's-retro thing (it still reminds me of people from BK and people too obsessed with fads). the only bad thing i can say about them honestly is that the beats they use make you focus on the background sounds going on than the lyrics. minus 7 cool points, lol.

18. "breathless" by Corinne Bailey Rae
this is the quintessential friend-who-i-want-to-be-my-lover song in the least stalkery and least desperate way ever. and i absolutely adore Corinne's voice.

19. "handlebars" by Flobots
i'm usually skeptical about new rap. this is pretty good - don't take my word for law, though because i've yet to listen to all of "Fight With Tools". but i'm addicted to this song. it's probably from all those daggone Flobots commercials on Adult Swim.

20. "viva la white girl" by Gym Class Heroes
my favorite modern drug song. if i smoked, i'd probably smoke to this song and "pillmatic" by them. GCH is always making me smile, heehee.

21. "i love my chick" by Busta Rhymes ft. Kelis & Will.I.Am
when was the last time you heard this song? [ jams to it ] i remembered it randomly and it just makes me happy. i love cleaning with this song in the background. plus, i realized that i really really like Busta Rhymes as a rapper. fun times.

22. "homecoming" by Green Day
i only got into Green Day with the album "American Idiot" (yeah, yeah, so sue me) but i adore the album. on my list of albums sorted by listenability (how many tracks i like), it's pretty high up there. plus, i've yet to hear too many other 9 minute songs that i can listen to straight through AND know all the words.

23. "white rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane
y'all who aren't into old music know NOTHING about Jefferson Airplane. can you say Woodstock '69? lmao. i actually learned about this song through a reference on an episode of Futurama, but i became obsessed with this song. i almost wrote a story inspired by it about drug usage in the future... i might try it again....

24. "somewhere over the rainbow" by Jimi Hendrix
you WISH this was your sappy-ass Judy Garland version. this song is amazing. if you know Hendrix's genius, you will NOT be disappointed. between his phenomenal guitar handling skills and the lyrics, i'm in love with this song and Jimi, no lie. in fact, this was the first song besides "Purple Haze" that made me fall in love with Hendrix.

25. "gone" by Kelly Clarkson
SHUT UP, I LOVE THIS SONG. i had her album because i won it in a contest at school from the music department and i let it kinda sit there in my CD tower (except to play "since u been gone" and "breakaway"). then i got to college and an acappella group performed this song and it blew me away. so shut up, YES I LIKE KELLY CLARKSON, gosh...

and that has been all 25 tracks on my playlist as of june 15th, 2008. if you read all this, God bless you, lmao..

peace.
